Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program
The Akani Center’s Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program (IOP) is a structured and comprehensive approach to treating substance abuse, mental health disorders, or behavioral issues including eating disorders and providing gender affirming care. The program is designed for individuals who require more support than traditional outpatient therapy but do not need the level of care provided in residential or inpatient programs.
-
Structured Schedule
Participants attend therapy sessions several times a week, typically for 3 – 4 hours at least three days per week. The schedule may include individual therapy, group therapy, and educational sessions.
-
Therapeutic Modalities
Therapy sessions may incorporate a variety of evidence-based modalities such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, and family therapy. All groups are facilitated or co-facilitated by Master’s level behavioral health professionals.
-
Individualized Treatment Plans
Each participant receives a personalized treatment plan tailored to their specific needs, challenges, and goals. The plan is regularly reviewed and adjusted as necessary to ensure effectiveness.
-
Group Support
Group therapy sessions provide a supportive environment where participants can share experiences, learn from others, and develop coping skills. Group dynamics can be a powerful tool for healing and growth.
-
Medical Monitoring
Participants may receive medical oversight, including medication management for co-occurring mental health disorders or withdrawal symptoms from substance abuse.
-
Life Skills Training
Programs often include sessions focused on developing practical skills for managing daily life stressors, communication, problem-solving, and relapse prevention.
-
Continued Support
After completing the program, participants may transition to less intensive forms of therapy or ongoing support groups to maintain progress and prevent relapse.
