Substance Abuse and Addiction Recovery
The Akani Center’s substance use disorder (SUD) recovery program endorses a holistic approach that addresses the physical, psychological, and social aspects of addiction. The Akani Center has 24 hour residential care, Intensive outpatient care with supportive housing, and outpatient care with or without supportive housing. The framework of the program is as follows:
-
Our clinicians conduct a thorough assessments to understand the extent of each individual's substance use, co-occurring mental health disorders, medical history, social support system, and readiness for change. We utilize validated screening tools such as the Addiction Severity Index (ASI) or the Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventory (SASSI).
-
For individuals requiring detoxification, The Akani Center will refer clients to a medically supervised withdrawal management program such as Community Bridges, to ensure safety and comfort during the detox process. Once a patient is detoxed, we can proceed with the assessment, screening and treatment.
-
Akani therapists will develop individualized treatment plans based on the assessment findings and in collaboration with the individual. We will partner with the member to set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals to guide the recovery journey.
-
The Akani Center incorporates evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and contingency management (CM) into the treatment program. These therapies help individuals develop coping skills, address underlying issues, and modify maladaptive behaviors.
-
We offer group therapy sessions to provide peer support, enhance social skills, and foster a sense of belonging. Group therapy formats may include process groups, psychoeducational groups, relapse prevention groups, and mutual-help groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).
-
Our philosophy is to integrate holistic interventions such as mindfulness practices, yoga, art therapy, exercise, nutrition education, and stress management techniques into the program. These interventions promote overall well-being and help individuals develop healthier lifestyles.
-
The Akani Center encourages participation in peer support programs such as 12-step meetings. We believe in using sponsors or peer mentors to provide guidance, accountability, and encouragement during the recovery process.
-
At The Akani Center, we specialize in treating co-occurring mental health disorders alongside substance use disorders through integrated dual diagnosis treatment. We offer
psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and psychotherapy tailored to individuals with dual diagnoses. -
During treatment, we will develop comprehensive aftercare plans to support individuals' transition back to their communities and prevent relapse. We offer ongoing support through outpatient therapy, sober living arrangements, alumni programs, and community-based resources.
By implementing this comprehensive framework, we are able to facilitate a substance use disorder recovery program that addresses the complex needs of individuals struggling with addiction and supports their journey toward lasting recovery and wellness.
